The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of April 2018, was warmer than normal in temperatures with below average relative humidities, precipitation and wind speed.

The mean temperature of the month was 26.9°C which is 1.9°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the sixth highest mean temperatures for the month of April since 1902. This is same as April 1928 and exceeded by April 2017 with a record of 27.6°C, April 2000 & 2014 at 27.4°C, April 2001 at 27.2°C, April 2010 at 27.1°C and April 1999 at 27.0°C.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 30.9°C which is 1.8°C above the long-term normal. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 37.7°C which occurred on the 22nd of April at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 38.6°C on the same day at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 23.9°C which is 2.4°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the second highest mean minimum temperatures for the month of April since 1946. This is same as April 2014 and only exceeded by April 2010 and 2017 with a record of 24.1°C. The lowest temperature recorded was 21.7°C set on the 7th of April at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 19.0°C on the 18th of April at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for April was 53% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 72% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 35%.

Total precipitation of 4.2 mm fell over 5 days in April 2018 at Bahrain International Airport. Trace amounts of precipitation were recorded on the 6th, 15th, 22nd, 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th of April where the long-term mean total precipitation for the month of April is 10.0 mm. The highest monthly rainfall ever recorded during April was 69.9 mm which occurred on April 1961.

The total precipitation recorded for April 2018 at King Fahd Causeway was 8.0 mm, at Durrat Al Bahrain was 4.6 mm and at Sitra Island was 4.2 mm.

April month is considered as transitional season period from winter to summer which usually associated with unsettled weather known locally as (Al-Sarrayat) which extends up to mid-May.

Northwesterly to Northerly winds accounted 49% with gusts reaching 39 knots on the 26th of April at Bahrain International Airport. But reached 40 knots on the same day at King Fahd Causeway

Dust affected the Kingdom of Bahrain on the 23rd of April reduced the visibility to 1500 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
