The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications Grants Yacht Captains a Grace Period for Holding Training Certificate in Navigational Skills

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Ports and Maritime Affairs (announced that a grace period not exceeding six months starting from 19th April 2021 will be granted for captains of yachts of 36 feet or more

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Ports and Maritime Affairs (announced that a grace period not exceeding six months starting from 19th April 2021 will be granted for captains of yachts of 36 feet or more in overall length for the requirement of holding proper training certificate in navigational skills.

On this occasion, the Assistant Undersecretary of Maritime Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Yousif Essa Bubshait stated, “As part of the new requirement specified in the Ministerial Resolution No. (2) for the year 2021 regarding the registration and safety conditions and the requirements for obtaining a navigation license for small vessels which gross tonnage is less than one hundred and fifty tons, we are fully committed in ensuring  that all captains of the specified yachts hold the proper training certificate in navigation skills and with the overall aim of enhancing the safety of navigation at sea.”

His Excellency further added “To ensure that yachts’ Captains have adequate time to obtain the required training certification, the Maritime Affairs is granting a grace period not exceeding six months whereby after this period, Captains will be required to provide proof of training in order to issue or renew their navigation license".

The approved training for yachts’ Captains consists of basic navigational skills such as basic nautical and navigational skills and knowledge, charting, as well as safety measures at sea.
