The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of December 2018, was warmer than normal in temperatures with below average precipitation and relative humidities.

The mean temperature of the month was 21.6°C which is 2.4°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the third highest mean temperatures for the month of December since 1902 and exceeded by December 2001 with a record of 22.5°C and December 1998 with a record of 22.3°C.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 24.1°C which is 1.8°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the seventh highest mean maximum temperatures for the month of December since 1946. This is same as December 1996 and exceeded by December 2001 with a record of 26.3°C, December 1998 with a record of 25.9°C, December 2005 with a record of 24.9°C, December 1977 with a record of 24.5°C, December 1990 with a record of 24.4°C and December 1968, 1978 & 1981 with a record of 24.2°C.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 27.2°C which occurred on the 6th of December at Bahrain International Airport.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 19.2°C which is 3.0°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the second highest mean minimum temperatures for the month of December since 1946 and only exceeded by December 2001 with a record of 19.6°C.

The lowest temperature recorded was 15.9°C set on the 27th of December at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 12.8°C on the 25th of December at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for December was 67% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 79% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 54%.

Only 0.2 mm of Precipitation was reported on December 2018 at Bahrain International Airport. Trace amounts of precipitation were recorded on the 11th, 30th and 31st of December, the long-term mean total precipitation for the month of December is 10.9 mm. The highest monthly Total Precipitation ever recorded during December was 119.6 mm which occurred on December 2006.

The total monthly precipitation recorded for December 2018 at Sitra Island was 1.4 mm whereas the total precipitation at Durrat Al Bahrain was 0.2 mm and at King Fahd Causeway was no precipitation reported.

Northwesterly winds accounted 41% with gusts reaching 29 knots on the 23rd of December at Bahrain International Airport.

Mist affected the Kingdom of Bahrain on the 2nd of December reducing the visibility to 1200 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
