MONTHLY WEATHER SUMMARY – JULY 2018

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of July 2018 goes on record as the second hottest July ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902.

The mean temperature of the month was 36.2°C which is 2.3°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as second the highest mean temperatures for the month of July since 1902 and only exceeded by July 2017 with a record of 36.9°C.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 40.4°C which is 2.4°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the sixth highest mean maximum temperatures for the month of July since 1946 and exceeded by July 2017 with a record of 42.1°C, July 2002 with a record of 41.4°C, July 2000 with a record of 41.3°C, July 2004 with a record of 40.8°C and July 1996, 2008 & 2012 with a record of 40.5°C

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 45.3°C which occurred on the 8th of July at Bahrain International Airport. Note that the highest temperature ever recorded in Bahrain for July was 47.4°C which occurred on 15th July 2000 and 13th July 2010.

The highest temperature recorded in the month at Durrat Al Bahrain was 45.9°C on the 26th of July.

During the month Bahrain had 17 days with maximum temperature exceeding 40°C.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 32.7°C which is 2.3°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the second highest mean minimum temperatures for the month of July since 1946. This is same as July 2014 and only exceeded by July 2016 with a record of 33.2°C.

The lowest temperature recorded was 30.7°C set on the 1st of July at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 28.3°C on the 24th of July at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for July was 47% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 67% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 28%.

The Shamal winds continued affecting the Kingdom throughout the month of July and accounted 47% with gusts reaching 32 knots on the 10th of July at Bahrain International Airport but reached 34 knots on the 9th of July at Durrat Al Bahrain.

 Dust affected the Kingdom of Bahrain on the 28th of July reduced the visibility to 1200 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
