MONTHLY WEATHER SUMMARY –JUNE 2021

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of June 2021 was slightly warmer than normal in temperatures with above average Wind Speed.

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of June 2021 was slightly warmer than normal in temperatures with above average Wind Speed.

The mean temperature of the month was 34.1°C which is 0.1°C above the long-term normal for June. Note that the highest mean monthly temperature for June was 36.3°C recorded in 2019. 

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 38.2°C which is 0.4°C below the long-term normal. Note that the highest mean monthly maximum for June was 40.9°C recorded in 2019. 

During the month Bahrain had 5 days with a maximum temperature exceeded 40°C. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 43.0°C which occurred on the 6th June at Bahrain International Airport. Note that the highest temperature recorded for June at Bahrain International Airport was 46.6°C which occurred on 20th June 2010.

The highest temperature recorded in the month at Bahrain International Circuit was 47.8°C on the 6th June 2021 and at Durrat Al Bahrain was 47.3°C on the same day.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 30.5°C which is 0.5°C above the long-term normal. Note that the highest mean monthly minimum temperature for June was 32.4°C recorded in 2018.

The lowest temperature recorded was 27.3°C set on the 14th June at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 25.0°C on the 23rd June at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for June was 47% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 67% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 28%. The maximum relative humidity was 89% recorded on the 22nd June and the minimum relative humidity was 13% recorded on the 26th June.      

The total hours of sunshine for the month was 361.2 hours. Note that the highest monthly total hours of sunshine for June was 374.8 hours recorded in 2020.

The Mean wind speed for June was 12 knots. The prevailing wind was 57% from the Northwest direction. Gust winds reached 37 knots on the 17th June at Bahrain International Airport and also 37 knots on the 11th June at King Fahad Causeway. But Gust winds reached 40 knots on the 17th June at Durrat Al Bahrain. This was due to the seasonal Indian low developed over Northern India, central and southern parts of Pakistan and extended into the Arabian Gulf leading to Northwesterly winds which are known locally as (Al-Barreh) and established on the 26th May.

During the month Bahrain had 10 days with dust and the visibility dropped to 5000 meters or less on these days.

Thick dust was reported on the 17th June. Visibility dropped to 500 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
