February 2014 was slightly warmer than normal with below average relative humidity, wind speed, and rainfall.

The mean temperature of the month was 18.0°C. This is 0.1°C above the long-term normal. The temperatures in the first half of the month were mostly less than normal in association with Shamal winds. But the second half of the month, the temperatures were above normal with the absence of prolonged Shamal winds.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 21.3°C. The highest temperature recorded in the month was 27.3°C which was on the 27th February due to variable mainly southerly winds which dominated that morning.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 15.5°C. The lowest temperature recorded was 12.1°C on the 6th and 7th of February. During the month, there were 12 days with the minimum temperature reaching 15°C or less.

The mean relative humidity for February was 65%. This goes on record as the fifth lowest mean monthly relative humidity for February since 1955 and is the same as February 2008 and exceeded by February 2013 which was 58%, February 2012 which was 59%, February 2010 which was 61% and February 2011 which was 62%.

The mean maximum relative humidity for the month was 79%. This goes on record as the fifth lowest mean monthly maximum relative humidity for February since 1955 and which exceeded February 2012 which was 73%, February 2013 which was 75%, February 2011 which was 76% and February 2010 which was 77%.

The mean minimum relative humidity was 46%. February 2014 was the sixth sunniest month for all February’s since the sunshine records began in 1968.

The total hours of sunshine for the month was 248.8 hours. This total hours of sunshine was exceeded by February 1977 which was 263.8 hours, February 1994 which was 259.4 hours, February 2008 which was 256.7 hours, February 1998 which was 256.1 hours and February 2013 which was 251.7 hours.

Only 0.1 mm of rain was reported during February 2014 with trace amounts reported on the 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 16th and 28th at Bahrain International Airport.

It is worth noting that the long-term mean total precipitation for February is 16.2 mm and the highest total rainfall ever recorded for February was 106.8 mm which occurred on February 1988.

Northwesterly winds accounted for 58% of the observations with gusts reaching 31 knots on the 9th February at the airport.

Mist was reported on the 15th February and reduced visibility to 1500 meters at the airport.
