The Ports and Maritime Affairs (PMA), at the Ministry of Transportation (MoT) announced today that the new BituMena facility by MENA Energy DMCC, a major regional energy product related company in the Middle East and North Africa region, has official started their operation at the Bahrain Logistics Zone (BLZ), the Kingdom’s only dedicated customs-bonded, value-added logistics park.

The inauguration was attended by His Excellency Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transportation and Acting Chief Executive of the Economic Development Board and marked an important step for the BLZ as it serves in further enhancing Bahrain’s economic development plans and in positioning the Kingdom as an important logistics hub with a strategic location and an attractive investment environment.

On this occasion, His Excellency reiterated the importance of this project and its positive contribution to increasing exports, creating jobs, and in strengthening Bahrain’s position as a logistic hub as well as in highlighting the benefits of the Bahrain Logistics Zone to companies seeking an ideal logistics hub from which they can target the Saudi Arabian and Northern Gulf markets. Falling under the administrative jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transportation’s Ports and Maritime Affairs, the BLZ aims at supporting and monitoring the operations process with an overall goal of establishing a benchmark for high-quality logistical operations.

From his end, Mr. Rashid Al Ghurair, Chief Executive Officer of MENA Energy said, “We are pleased to have selected Bahrain as our regional logistics and distribution hub, and look forward to expanding our business here in Bahrain with similar world class projects. The BLZ’s strategic location and the easy access to prime transportation links it affords us made it the ideal choice for us to base our expansionary operations from.” He further added “Our USD 20 Million facility in BLZ is the first of its kind in the Middle East, with only two other similar bagging facilities world-wide. The bitumen used will be from Bapco and processed at out facility, and subsequently exported to international markets from Bahrain. We are also very proud of having our first export shipment sent from our facility via Khalifa Bin Salman Port and hope that we can reach our capacity of exporting about 700 containers per month or about 8,400 containers per year very soon.”

The new facility will offer a complete logistics solution that facilitates a more economical and efficient delivery of products in an easier process for both the suppliers and the end users. The technologically advanced system will also allow for the bags to be transported on a much larger scale, with easy handling and at competitive rates to any location worldwide.

It is worth noting that the BLZ is the first designated customs-bonded value added logistics park in Bahrain. Strategically located within the Salma industrial City adjacent to Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP), the BLZ was designed to complement the port and to offer an all-encompassing scope for the operation of modern logistics and value-added services for its carefully selected tenants.
