The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of March 2018, goes on record as the hottest March ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902.

The mean temperature of the month was 24.6°C which is 3.6°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the highest mean temperatures for the month of March since 1902. The old record was 24.2°C in March 1969.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 29.6°C which is 4.9°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the highest mean maximum temperatures for the month of March since 1946. The old record was 28.8°C in March 1969 and 2008.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 37.6°C which occurred on the 30th of March at Bahrain International Airport and goes on record as the third highest maximum temperature for March since 1946 and exceeded by 29th March 1998 with a record of 38.1°C and 19th March 1966 with a record of 38.0°C.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 20.7°C which is 2.9°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the highest mean minimum temperatures for the month of March since 1946. This is same as March 1969. The lowest temperature recorded was 17.4°C set on the 20th of March at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 15.5°C on the 3rd of March at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for March was 53% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 75%. The mean minimum relative humidity was 28% and goes on record as the lowest mean monthly minimum relative humidity for March since 1946. The old record was 29% in March 2008 and 2013.

Trace amount of precipitation were recorded on the 2nd of March at Bahrain International Airport where the long-term mean total precipitation for the month of March is 14.0 mm - the highest monthly rainfall ever recorded during March                       was 139.2 mm which occurred on March 1995.

March 2018 was the sunniest March since the sunshine records began in 1968 whereby the monthly total hour of sunshine recorded was 324.3 hours. The old record was 285.2 hours in March 2008.

Northwesterly to Northerly winds accounted 48% with gusts reaching 36 knots on the 31st of March at Bahrain International Airport. But reached 37 knots on the same day at King Fahd Causeway

Thick dust haze affected the Kingdom of Bahrain on the 30th of March reduced the visibility to 500 meters at Bahrain International Airport due to the movement of surface trough from the northwest areas across Southern parts of Iraq in to Arabian Gulf  accompanied by thick dust haze and cloudy condition.
