Monthly Weather Summary – February 2022

The Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of February 2022 was slightly warmer than normal in temperatures

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of                       February 2022 was slightly warmer than normal in temperatures and below average precipitation.

The mean temperature of the month was 19.3°C which is 0.9°C above the long-term normal for February and this goes on record as the seventh highest mean temperature for February since 1902. Note that the highest mean monthly temperature for February was 21.5°C recorded in 1963.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 22.6°C which is 0.6°C above the long-term normal. Note that the highest mean monthly maximum temperature for February was 25.2°C recorded in 1963.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 28.4°C which occurred on the 19th February at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 29.8°C on the 26th February at Bahrain International Circuit. 

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 16.4°C which is 1.0°C above the long-term normal. Note that the highest mean monthly minimum temperature for February was 18.3°C recorded in 1963.

The lowest temperature recorded was 13.2°C on the 10th February at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 11.3°C on the 9th February at Durrat Al Bahrain.

Note that the lowest temperature recorded at Bahrain International Airport for February was 7.2°C which occurred on 11th February 1949 and 8th February 1950.

The mean relative humidity for February was 64% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 82% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 43%. The maximum relative humidity was 95% recorded on the 14th February and the minimum relative humidity was 22% recorded on the 16th February.  

Only trace amounts of precipitation were recorded on the 12th February at Bahrain International Airport. Note that the long-term mean total precipitation for February is 13.0 mm and the highest monthly rainfall recorded during February at Bahrain International Airport was 106.8 mm which occurred in 1988. 

February 2022 was the second sunniest February since the sunshine records began in 1968. The total hours of sunshine for the month were 271.0 hours and only exceeded by February 2016 which was 287.1 hours. 

The Mean wind speed for February was 10 knots. The prevailing wind was 48% from the Northwest direction. Gust winds reached 31 knots on the 5th, 12th and 21st February at Bahrain International Airport but reached 32 knots on the 12th February at Bahrain International Circuit. The Easterly to Southeasterly winds accounted for 21% of the observation.

Fog patches were reported on the 14th February. Visibility dropped to 1000 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
