The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of  August 2021 goes on record as the hottest August ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902.

The mean temperature of the month was 36.8°C which is 1.7°C above the long-term normal for August and this goes on record as the highest mean temperature for August since 1902. The old record was 36.6°C recorded in August 2017.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 41.8°C which is 2.2°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the highest mean maximum temperature for August since 1946. The old record was 41.4°C recorded in August 2017.

During the month Bahrain had 26 days with a maximum temperature exceeded 40°C and this goes on record as the highest number of days with maximum temperature exceeded 40°C since 1946. The old record was 24 days recorded in August 2017.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 45.5°C which occurred on the 2nd August at Bahrain International Airport and this goes on record as the third-highest temperature for August since 1946 at Bahrain. This is only exceeded by 9th August 1993 which was 45.7°C and 15th August 2016 which was 45.6°C.

The highest temperature recorded in August was at Bahrain International Circuit which was 48.7°C on the 2nd August 2021 and at Durrat Al Bahrain which was 47.7°C on the same day.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 33.4°C which is 1.9°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the highest mean minimum temperature since 1946. The old record was 33.2°C recorded in August 2017.

The lowest temperature recorded was 31.9°C on the 17th August at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 28.6°C on the same night at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for August was 51% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 70% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 26%. The maximum relative humidity was 85% recorded on the 25th August and the minimum relative humidity was 12% recorded on the 2nd and 4th August.      

August 2021 was the sunniest August since the sunshine records began in 1968 whereby the monthly total hours of sunshine recorded was 364.7 hours. The old record was 362.4 hours recorded in August 2020.

The month was hot and humid. This was due to prevailing easterly winds which brought humid air to the Kingdom from the Arabian Gulf.

The Mean wind speed for August was 7 knots. The prevailing wind was 25% from the East direction. Northwesterly winds accounted for 19% of the observation. Gust winds reached 27 knots on the 15th August at Bahrain International Airport and Bahrain International Circuit but recorded 28 knots on the same day at Durrat Al Bahrain.

Dust was reported on the 5th August. Visibility dropped to 2000 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
