Under the patronage of His Excellency Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transportation and Acting Chief Executive of the Economic Development Board and as part of the national celebrations commemorating the Bahraini Women’s Day and under the patronage of, the Ministry of Transportation organised a luncheon for its female employees to mark this occasion. Bahrain celebrates this year’s anniversary under the theme “Women and Media”, which aims to highlight the Bahraini woman’s role and achievements and opportunities for further development in the media field.

During the gathering, His Excellency the Minister expressed his appreciation and pride for the efforts and strides taken by Bahraini women, which currently represent approximately 20 percent of the Ministry’s workforce, and for the important role they play.

His Excellency further added “The annual Bahraini Women’s Day on the first of December is an important occasion initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and the President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) to acknowledge the role of women and their contributions to the economy and society. We at the Ministry of Transportation commend this initiative taken by the Supreme Council for Women and are grateful for their efforts in inspiring women and celebrating their achievements as well as promoting women as being an integral part of the economic and social community.” Earlier this year, the Ministry of Transportation set up an ‘Equal Opportunities Unit’ that is responsible for implementing the concept of ‘equal opportunities’ and integrating women’s needs in all of the Ministry’s projects and activities and in line with the National Model for Mainstreaming Women’s Needs in Development.
