His Excellency Mr. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transportation praised the joint cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates in the field of aviation following the establishment of additional airways that will serve air traffic between Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates’ Flight Information Regions and which has resulted in a capacity increase of more than 40%.
The airways between the two countries will serve in fulfilling the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) latest requirement to create non-traditional airways. These unconventional airways, which have particular specifications that depend on the latest air navigation technologies and use of satellites ,are being implemented at this scale and capacity for the first time in the Middle East.
His Excellency further added that prior to the addition of the three new airways, the previous four airways served the movement between the two Flight Information Regions. Following the addition of the new airways on the 30th of May, a total of seven airways now currently exist and have already showed a positive impact on the safety and efficiency of air traffic in the region.
His Excellency also noted that the Ministry of Transportation is actively working on implementing the Civil Aviation’s plans as per the Ministry’s strategic plan which aim to further develop air navigation services and keep pace with the rapid growth in air traffic volume between the various countries. Moreover, airlines using the Bahrain Flight Information Region have praised the air transportation services offered by the Ministry of Transportation’s Civil Aviation Affairs.
It is worthy to note that the number of over-flying movements through the Bahrain Flight Information Region reaches over 600,000 annually with an average growth of 7% per annum. These flights are all handled by qualified Bahraini and international Air Traffic Controllers using the latest state-of-art technology in the field of air navigation.
