As part of its employee engagement strategy, the Ministry of Transportation held its first all-staff meeting to present the Ministry’s new strategic plan 2013-2016 following the Royal Decree issued late last year which merged transportation activities in the Kingdom under one umbrella to facilitate the streamlining of this vital sector which will bolster the Kingdom’s transportation sector and fulfil Bahrain's long-term economic needs.

The meeting, which brought together all staff from the main four divisions of aviation, maritime, land and post, as well as central services department staff, was held under the patronage of His Excellency Mr Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transportation, who opened the meeting by highlighting the Ministry’s new role and responsibility for enhancing the transportation infrastructure and systems to boost productivity and improve the quality of the air, land and sea transportation.

In his speech, the Minister said: “This is a very critical time for the Ministry of Transportation as we are setting the foundation for the Ministry’s future role and it is crucial that we are all focused on a common vision and goal. The Ministry’s strategic plan and projects are focused on developing vital premises and strengthening the infrastructure of the Transportation sectors; Land Transport, Maritime and Sea Ports, Bahrain Post, Civil Aviation and Meteorology, in order to provide best-in-class services and to be at par with international best practice.” His Excellency further added that the Ministry will start using a project management system that will monitor projects’ progress as per the strategic plan.

His Excellency emphasized the importance of each employee’s role in achieving the Ministry’s plan and objectives, adding that a comprehensive training plan is being developed which will ensure that all staff are trained and qualified to perform their duties, and will have a career growth plan for their personal development.

Following the Minister’s address, presentations were made by each of the divisions, which included an overview of each division’s respective role, strategic objectives, and key projects.

The Ministry of Transportation in Bahrain is the government body responsible for developing transportation infrastructure and systems to enhance productivity and improve the quality of land, sea, and air transport and postal services based on Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030. As part of its mission of developing and building the capacities of air, land, and maritime transport and postal services to support a competitive economy and improve quality of life, the Ministry of Transportation creates the necessary diversity to encourage economic growth, which is one of the elements of the integrated development in the Kingdom.

Heading towards the future, the Ministry of Transportation will be working on further streamlining operations across land, air and sea transport as well as developing new policies and strengthening the infrastructure of the Land Transport, Maritime and Sea Ports, Bahrain Post, Civil Aviation and Meteorology sectors. The Ministry’s future vision aims at strengthening the Kingdom’s transportation capabilities under an integrated policy of development, and position these as viable contributors to the Kingdom’s economic growth.
