The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of June 2018 goes on record as the hottest June ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902.

The mean temperature of the month was 35.7°C which is 3.3°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the highest mean temperatures for the month of June since 1902. The old record was 35.2°C in June 2009.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 39.9°C which is 3.5°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the third highest mean maximum temperatures for the month of June since 1946 and exceeded by June 1999 with a record of 40.2°C and June 2009 with a record of 40.0°C.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 45.9°C which occurred on the 3rd of June at Bahrain International Airport and goes on record as the third highest maximum temperature day for June since 1946 and only exceeded by 20th June 2010 with a record of 46.6°C and 19th June 2010 with a record of 46.2°C.

The highest temperature recorded in the month at Durrat Al Bahrain was 46.2°C on the 8th of June.

During the month Bahrain had 11 days with maximum temperature exceeding 40°C or more.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 32.4°C which is 3.6°C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the highest mean minimum temperatures for the month of June since 1946. The old record was 31.6°C in June 2011.

The lowest temperature recorded was 30.4°C set on the 29th of June at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 27.2°C on the 26th of June at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for June was 42% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 63% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 25%.

The Shamal winds accounted 50% with gusts reaching 39 knots on the 8th of June at Bahrain International Airport but reached 41 knots on the same day at Durrat Al Bahrain. This is due to the seasonal low pressure developed over central and southern parts of Pakistan and extended in to the Arabian Gulf leading to shamal winds which is known locally as (Al-Barreh) and established on the 6th of June.

Dust affected the Kingdom of Bahrain on the 28th of June reduced the visibility to 1300 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
