The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month ofApril 2021 goes on record as the warmest April ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902.

The mean temperature of the month was 27.7°C which is 1.7°C above the long-term normal for April and this goes on record as the highest mean monthly temperature for April since 1902. The old record was 27.6°C recorded in April 2017.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 33.3°C which is 2.7°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the highest mean maximum temperature for April since 1946. The old record was 33.1°C recorded in April 2000.

During the month Bahrain had 12 days with maximum temperature exceeded 35°C. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 39.9°C which occurred on the 26th April at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 41.8°C on the 2nd April at Bahrain International Circuit.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 23.7°C which is 1.3°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the third highest mean minimum temperature for April since 1946. This is the same as April 2020 and exceeded by April 2010 & 2017 with a record of 24.1°C and April 2014 & 2018 with a record of 23.9°C.

The lowest temperature recorded was 20.1°C set on the 7th April at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 15.8°C on the 6th April at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for April was 45% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 68% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 22%. The maximum relative humidity was 84% recorded on the 11th and 12th April and the minimum relative humidity was 9% recorded on the 24th April.

Trace amounts of precipitation were recorded on the 13th and 14th April at Bahrain International Airport. Note that the long-term mean total precipitation for April is 5.8 mm and the highest monthly rainfall ever recorded during April at Bahrain International Airport was 69.9 mm which occurred in 1961.

April 2021 was the second sunniest month for all April since the sunshine records began in 1968. The total hours of sunshine for the month was 315.7 hours and only exceeded by April 2017 which was 318.1 hours.

The Mean wind speed for April was 9 knots. The prevailing wind was 39% from the Northwest direction. Gust winds reached 38 knots on the 3rd April at Bahrain International Airport. The Easterly to Southeasterly winds accounted for 30% of the observation.

April month is considered as transitional season period from winter to summer which usually associated with unsettled weather known locally as (Al-Sarrayat) which extends up to mid-May.
