Bahrain Advancing Meteorological Services and Monitoring Capabilities

23 March 2026

On World Meteorological Day, observed annually on March 23, HE Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, said that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues to enhance meteorological services and strengthen monitoring capabilities to support public safety and preparedness.

He noted that Bahrain is developing early warning systems and advancing monitoring capabilities in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, adding that investment in observation systems supports long term safety and sustainability.

He said meteorological services support key sectors, including aviation and maritime navigation, by providing data to support decision making under different weather conditions.

The minister added that the Meteorological Directorate is implementing a project to install new automatic weather stations this year to improve data accuracy and expand geographic coverage.

He noted that the stations operate continuously, measuring temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, and rainfall, and transmitting data in real time to the operations centre. The data supports continuous analysis, improves short term forecasting (nowcasting), and enhances early warning systems.
