As part of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ efforts to upgrade and modernize Bahrain’s public transport system, and enhancing its service facilities and supporting infrastructure, significant developments have been made across this sector. Amongst these, bus stops have been upgraded with new bus shelters and poles. To date, there are 644 operational layby stops and 72 on-street stops, and 290 bus shelters including 35 of which are air conditioned.
The sector has finalized the design of new bus shelters which reflect Bahrain’s identity. Additionally, the Salmaniya bus interchange was further developed to provide dedicated and well equipped space for public transportation users, contributing to elevating the efficiency of services provided.
The Ministry also introduced taxi pylons at 24 taxi stops as a first step toward developing taxi stops in various parts of Bahrain.
As part of the cycling infrastructure enhancements, the Ministry, in coordination with the relevant stakeholders, built dedicated cycle lanes in addition to the 9 existing lanes across various governorates.
